Looking Back on Google Chrome

Google Chrome: in the past, my view on Google Chrome has not always been positive. I never thought that this could be a replacement to Firefox 3.

I was wrong. Very wrong.

Google Chrome is my system default browser. Unless something dramatic happens to it or Firefox, or another browser; I doubt this will change. I love this browser.

Why:

Speed:

Google Chrome runs fast. Google Chrome starts fast. Google Chrome loads webpages, flash, javascript fast. Google Chrome uses low CPU/memory/RAM, which makes everything else I do still run fast.

Design:

What you see is the basics, all that you need to use the web to its fullest. It only has one bar, at the top of the window, for navigation. The rest is for what you use a browser for: the web.

Chrome should, Firefox does:

Add-ons:

One thing I miss from Firefox is add-ons. No matter what they are for; fun or productivity, or anything in between. But those add-ons can cost you lots of time, and speed. So, they are something that need to be fixed. Google can do that—shrink the files of addons, shrink how much memory they use, and addons could be something welcomed in my Chrome.

Customization:

In Firefox, one fun thing to do is change the way your browser looks. Through themes, through moving around buttons, and through toolbars. This is one thing Google Chrome lacks greatly. Google has a very bare-bones browser. It does what you need it to do, so why can’t we make it our own, also? As long as Google can make these fast and small, they need to come.

Welcomed, with few problems:

Google Chrome has few problems. These few problems do not effect why you should/ should not use the browser. Would you want a browser that runs everything fast, and performs with the internet better than any browser, or a browser that runs slower, but gives you some more customization. I think Google Chrome should, could, and will replace browsers everywhere. You just have to take the quick time to switch to it. Try it.

Rumor Alert! 7-9 inch iPod Touch...?

Large Form iPod Touch To Launch in Fall ‘09 says TechCrunch
Very few news stories I see make me want to post to my blog. But when Micheal Burrows isn't here to report on the latest apple news, I guess I have to. (Check out his blog!)
According to TechCrunch, Apple will be launching another version of the touch, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. The touch as of now has a 3.5 inch screen, the largest apple has ever made on an iPod.
"Expect a large screen iPod touch device to be released in the Fall of ‘09, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. Prototypes have been seen and handled by one of our sources," says TechCrunch
Prototypes have been handled, according to their sources. A device that has been seen by more than one person, claimed to have been handled by people... this sounds like the last nano leak, by Kevin Rose, founder of Digg.
"We don’t have any information on pricing. The current iPod touch, with a 3.5 inch screen, starts at $229. The 32 GB model is $399. We expect the price on the larger iPod touch to be significantly higher." says TechCrunch

Okay: 7-9 inch screen. It would be like a portable tablet. Now: how much money does apple need to make the device, and how much will the cheat out of us to get it? High price: YES. Worth it: hmmm...
Will it be worth it?
Do you enjoy carrying your touch in your pocket?
Do you enjoy holding your touch in one hand while listening to music?
Do you like typing with two thumbs?
Do you not have a lot of money?
If you answered of these yes: The answer to "Is it worth it?" is no. This device will be big and bulky. It will be expensive. It will be cool, but you have to be pretty rich to be cool.
Will this dream rumor come true?
Apple wants to make money. Enough people love apple enough to buy and apple tablet, or a big iPod touch tablet. I bet apple will make this. I won't buy it, But if it makes the latest iPod cheaper, I'm all for this coming out!
What about you? What do you think? Will you get one? Is the rumor real? Tell me in the comments section.

After-Christmas Update

Okay, for the after-Christmas update, I've decided to do little segments, so pick out and read what interests you.
Social network revolution, people! Facebook has become a BIG part of my/my friends lives. Everyone is getting a Facebook, and friends are connecting in a way they have never done online. Especially in this community, at NWC. Facebook delivers with seamless chat, updates like twitter, pictures, and your friends. People communicate and become better friends through this. www.facebook.com
Our Blogosphere Podcasts has been active—behind the scenes. The podcasts are currently on hold as we do some major changes. By major, I mean adding people, cutting a podcast, and testing with new software. Except a redefined Our Blogosphere: Original Flavors, and major news with Our Blogosphere 2.
SBICD has been revised with a new look. It makes for more color schemes available for logos then just black. This look will stay for ALAIFLI (as long as I feel like it). Try saying that, and tell me how that goes.
New Photo Blog! Check it out at http://matthew.aminus3.com/. I’ll be updating every Sunday and Saturday, be sure to check back then! Quick note: I started another photo blog cause I got another camera.
Hopefully the next post you see will be about Our Blogosphere! Check back in and subscribe!

Monk News

Source: http://www.usanetwork.com/series/monk, bottom of the page.

Monk, one of the "Most successful series in basic cable history," is giving it's "Final farewell."
In Summer 2009, a full season- Season 8- with all 16 episodes will be aired, as the "Final season of the hit comedy series."
Very sad news, really. But, the show was beginning to feel a bit stale, in my opinion. There is still 1 1/2 seasons left until we get to the end, so we'll just have to savor what we have left.
Until then, let's predict how the writer's will be ending the series. Will they do the speed racer ending: Trudy is alive, but been in hiding? Trudy's killer is located? Will the mystery of Trudy even be solved, or will they leave us hanging and wanting to strangle the crazy writers who decided that would be a great idea? But don't leave up to me: leave your valued opinion in the comments.

Facebook, Among other things

I find cool stuff on the web. Then I get addicted, can't stop using it, and it becomes part of my life.
Well. I'm going to list the 4 programs I can't live without, as of now.
And the ones you should get and become addicted to, so I'm not the only one.

  • Dropbox: This is my server for podcast. this is how David, Shea and I share Documents. This is how my network in my house get docs from one computer to the next.
  • Facebook: This might of replaced twitter for me. that is saying a lot. I love twitter, but facebook has status, which is twitter really, and it also has so much more. And more of my REAL friends have facebooks then twitters. That's another thing,  facebook is really safe, and is focused solely on finding the people you actually know in life. Once you find, and keep finding, enough friends, it turns into your center of the web. You go there to chat with your friends. too see what they are doing. What they are playing. What sites they like. It's like a brainstorming web. There is a main idea (facebook) which branches into different people, feature, links, etc. I REALLY recomend this service.
  • Google Desktop: this is a little thing that really just hides behind the scenes in your computer. There is 2 things it does that make me love it. Number One, Widgets for windows users. YES! FINALLY! the selection isn't very good though, something they need to improve. Number two, search. You can search your entire computer by pressing ctrl twice. I use it regularly to launch applications, instead of finding it myself on the start menu or my desktop.
  • Firefox with Prism: Firefox is a web browser, like internet explorer. It is safer, runs faster, and loads webpages faster. Prism is an Add-on that lets you but web applications on your desktop to run like programs. It works great for web apps like gmail, sliderocket, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Well, There they are. Tell me what you think of them (or just one) in the comments!

How-To Blogging: Part 6- Interactive Features That Appeal to Your Audience

It’s a new weekly segment! I want to help you get into blogging! Here’s a guide to help you do it.
People Don’t want to just read. In order of most loved: Interactive features.
Live Shows: Everybody loves to chat with all of there friends. www.ustream.tv live shows combine a interactive TV show and a group chat to make great internet TV. Talking about Blogs, TV, Playing video games, whatever, people love it. Why? Cause they can practically change the channel without moving from a show, from hosts, from web pages. Whatever the audience says, whatever they feel like watching you do, goes.
Podcasts: Everybody has an iPod. Everybody. If they don’t want to read, if they can’t attend a live, Podcasts work great. You can promote your blog, you can do almost anything. It is a great way to promote your blog, and it is fun to do.
YouTube: Are you funny? Are your friends idiots? Do you want to direct? Youtube is great: people surf for hours. Make a funny video, and people love watching it. Add your blog link, and there’s another reason for people to want to come to your blog. They want more laughs. Or maybe crying. Who Knows!
Comments: ‘Nuff said.
Polls: Let them voice their opinions, about whatever: a news piece, what to talk about in a live show, do they like the podcast, and whatever!
Make sure to let the readers have fun.
Next Week:  A quick wrap up of what happened in this tutorial.

LIVE!

Preview: Slife

"Are you allowed to post about Slife?"
I sure hope so. Just cause it's not out to the public (in your face!) doesn't mean I can't talk about the private beta release I may or may not possibly have. Heh. Heh.
"What the Jiminey Cricket is Slife!?"
Who says Jiminey Cricket anymore, seriously? Anyway: Slife is an application that tracks your computer use. sounds boring, why not just use a timer, you say? Because Slife also tracks what programs you used, what webpages you went to, and how long you were on them. And then it helps you to set goals so that you can get more work done, do less lazing around on your feeds, et cetra. You can watch the tour of the currently released Mac version here: http://www.slifelabs.com/slife/features
"If it's already out, who cares?"
Already out FOR MAC. Most people still have PC's (Hey, I'd like a mac, but a thousand bucks is a little much for me.) The PC version is finished, but their still working out the bugs. I asked for the early release, and I got it.
"Whaddya Think of it?"
I Love it. I feel like I'm being watched on my computer, so it makes me a little more concious of how long I spend doing stuff on my computer. It uses barely any of your CPU or RAM, or Hard disk memory; so I leave it running all the time.
"When can I get my grubby little hands on it?"
Well, you can see it in action in the upcoming live show on October 3rd (A post about that Later). Otherwise you can try to get the early release like me, or just be patient.

"Thank you Matt, Thank you! You are so handsome and have such a great wealth of knowledge!"
-Matthew blushes- Aww, thanks! While you can't get your hands on it, i would like to show you a SBICD exclusive: screenshots of the slife windows beta version. (Click to see the pictures bigger)

How-To Blogging: Part 5- Stuff You Might Want (or Need)

It’s a new weekly segment! I want to help you get into blogging! Here’s a guide to help you do it.
You think blogging is cheap, huh? Well, it can be. But if you want to really have some fun, you might want to have some money. Ill Show the stuff you need in neat organized Groups.
If you’ll be doing a podcast: (Part 6)
If it is just you: A headset ($10-30).  More than Just you: Use a webcam mike (webcam: $15-60)
Video: If you have space behind your computer, A webcam ($15-60). If you don’t, or want more flexibility than one spot, a video camera ($70-600) (not your digital camera’s video setting. It doesn’t hold enough video, and quality usually is crud.)
Live Shows: (Part 6)
Webcam ($15-60).
Video Blogging, or YouTubing. (Part 6)
Video Camera ($70-600)
This should do. Go ahead, spend your money. It is (usually) worth it.
In Part 6, I’ll tell you about Interactive features that appeal to your audience.

How-To Blogging: Part 4- Web Stuff You Need

It’s a new weekly segment! I want to help you get into blogging! Here’s a guide to help you do it.
Some things don’t come with your blog. Here’s what you need to get along.
Intense Debate Comments: Super easy install. Just go to www.intensedebate.com and enter your blog address. It’ll guide you through the steps from then on. Why use this and not Blogger comments? Also, all commenters need is an account from http://www.intensedebate.com/signup and they can comment on all the blogs that use it. In other words, if you apply this commenting system, and so does all the other bloggers you get to sign up, they could all comment the same way on all the blogs.
www.Ustream.tv account: If you’ll be doing live shows or Podcasts. See part 6.
FeedBurner: Was mentioned in part 3. www.feedburner.com
Twitter: Besides telling people what you are doing, this is another way for people to find out when stuff gets posted to you blog, if they don’t want to use RSS (part 3). www.twitter.com
